E03
Pentair · Pentair MasterTemp 400,000 BTU Gas Pool/Spa Heater
The high limit thermostat has opened because the internal temperature or water temperature has exceeded the safety limit. The heater shuts down immediately. Common causes include the bypass valve set incorrectly (not enough water flowing through the heat exchanger), a failed or stuck-open gas valve (gas continuing to flow after flame should stop), a stuck pump relay (pump stops but heater keeps firing), or a faulty temperature sensor sending incorrect readings to the control board. Check the external bypass valve setting — there should be enough flow through the heater to carry heat away. Reset the high limit by pressing the red reset button on the high limit switch (located inside the heater cabinet). If the high limit trips repeatedly, diagnose the root cause.
