E01
Pentair · Pentair MasterTemp 400,000 BTU Gas Pool/Spa Heater
The heater failed to ignite after 3 attempts. The ignition module sends a spark to the burner while the gas valve opens — if no flame is detected by the flame sensing rod within the trial-for-ignition period, the heater shuts down with E01. Common causes include no gas supply (tank empty or gas valve off), a dirty or mispositioned flame sensing rod (the most common cause — clean with fine emery cloth), a faulty igniter (hot surface igniter cracked or weak spark igniter), spider webs or insect nests in the burner tray (very common in outdoor installations — mud daubers and spiders nest in burner orifices), or a faulty gas valve. Check gas supply first, then clean the flame rod, inspect the burner tray for debris, and verify the igniter is sparking.
