CAPACITOR FAIL
Pentair · Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF Variable Speed Pool Pump
The motor start/run capacitor has failed. The pump motor hums loudly but does not start, or starts very slowly and may trip on overcurrent (E01). The capacitor provides the initial phase shift needed to start the motor rotation. Capacitors degrade over time, especially in hot environments. A swollen or leaking capacitor is visibly failed. Test with a multimeter in capacitance mode — the reading should match the capacitor label (typically 30-50 microfarads). Replace with an identical rated capacitor ($10-25 part). Note: Variable speed drive pumps (IntelliFlo) use the VFD to start the motor and may not have a traditional capacitor.
