CELL SCALING
Pentair · Pentair IntelliChlor IC40 Salt Chlorine Generator
White calcium carbonate deposits have accumulated on the cell plates inside the salt cell. This reduces chlorine production efficiency and can eventually block water flow through the cell. Scale buildup is accelerated by high calcium hardness, high pH, and high water temperature. Clean the cell by removing it from the plumbing, plugging one end, and filling with a 4:1 water to muriatic acid solution. Let soak for 5-10 minutes (bubbling is normal), then rinse thoroughly with a hose. Inspect plates — they should be clean and shiny. Repeat if deposits remain. Maintain pH at 7.2-7.6 and calcium hardness below 400 ppm to slow future scaling. Cleaning is recommended every 3-6 months depending on water conditions.
