MECH-WONT-START
Craftsman · WS210 17 in 25.4 cc 2-Cycle Gas String Trimmer
The gas string trimmer engine does not start after pulling the starter rope. Craftsman gas trimmers (like the WS210 with a 25.4cc 2-cycle engine) are simple engines but are sensitive to fuel quality. Check in order: (1) FUEL — use fresh 40:1 or 50:1 gas/oil mix (check the owner manual for the specific ratio). Stale fuel is the #1 cause of 2-cycle no-start. Drain old fuel and refill with fresh mix. (2) STARTING PROCEDURE — prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb 5-7 times until fuel is visible in the bulb. Set the choke to FULL. Pull the cord until the engine attempts to fire (usually 3-5 pulls). Move the choke to HALF, pull again to start, then move to RUN. (3) FLOODED — if you smell fuel, the engine is flooded. Move choke to OFF/RUN, hold the throttle trigger fully open, and pull 10+ times to clear excess fuel. (4) SPARK PLUG — remove, inspect, and replace if fouled or worn. Check gap (typically 0.025"). (5) AIR FILTER — clean or replace if dirty. (6) FUEL FILTER — pull the fuel line from the tank. The filter is on the end inside the tank. Replace if clogged. (7) EXHAUST/SPARK ARRESTOR — the screen in the muffler clogs with carbon, restricting exhaust flow. Remove and clean with a wire brush.
