INDUCER NOISE
Rheem · Rheem R96V 96% AFUE Two-Stage Variable Speed Upflow Gas Furnace
The inducer (draft) motor at the top of the furnace makes loud humming, squealing, grinding, or vibration noises. The inducer motor pulls combustion air through the heat exchanger and pushes exhaust gases out the vent pipe. It runs before and during each heating cycle. Bearing failure is the most common inducer problem — the motor runs in a hot, moist environment (especially in condensing furnaces where it is exposed to acidic condensate). A failing inducer may also cause 4 FLASH codes because it cannot generate sufficient draft to close the pressure switch. Replace the inducer motor assembly. On condensing furnaces, also check for water damage to the inducer motor housing from condensate backup. When replacing, inspect the inducer gasket and replace if damaged.
