The evaporator coil temperature thermistor has failed. This sensor monitors the coil temperature to prevent freeze-up (the coil can ice over in cool weather operation). A failed coil sensor means the heat pump cannot activate defrost mode when needed. Check sensor wiring and connector. Replace the sensor.
