Thermostat cannot detect the cooling wire (Y1 or Y2). The air conditioning system will not activate. The wire may be disconnected at the thermostat base plate or at the outdoor unit control board. Check the Y1 terminal on both ends. On heat pump systems, the Y wire may be labeled differently — consult the wiring diagram for the specific HVAC system.
