MECH-STARTS-DIES
Cub Cadet · Cub Cadet 3X 26 TRAC IntelliPOWER 357cc Three-Stage Snow Blower
The snow blower engine fires and runs briefly (1-10 seconds) but then stalls. This cycle may repeat. Causes: (1) Choke position — the choke must be at FULL for cold starts. If the engine fires on full choke but stalls when moved to RUN, the carburetor main jet is partially clogged. Run at HALF choke until it warms, then try RUN again. If it only runs with full choke, the carburetor needs cleaning. (2) Stale fuel — old gasoline forms varnish that partially blocks carburetor passages. The engine gets enough fuel to start but starves under running conditions. Drain all old fuel, remove and clean the carburetor (focus on the main jet and pilot jet), and refill with fresh fuel. (3) Carburetor ice — in very cold, humid conditions, ice can form in the carburetor throat, blocking airflow. Let the engine warm up more gradually. (4) Fuel filter clogged — the inline fuel filter restricts flow. Replace. (5) Gas cap vent blocked — creates a vacuum in the tank that stops fuel flow after a few seconds. Loosen the cap to test — if the engine keeps running, replace the cap. (6) IntelliPOWER engine note: the electronic governor manages throttle position automatically. If the IntelliPOWER system senses an abnormal condition, it may shut down the engine as a safety measure.
