MECH-DRIVE-FAIL
Cub Cadet · Cub Cadet 3X 26 TRAC IntelliPOWER 357cc Three-Stage Snow Blower
The snow blower engine runs but the machine does not move when the drive lever is engaged. Cub Cadet 2X and 3X snow blowers use a friction disc drive system for forward motion and some models have multiple speed settings. Causes: (1) FRICTION DISC WORN — the rubber friction disc that contacts the drive plate wears down over time. When worn smooth or too thin, it slips and cannot drive the wheels/tracks. This is a normal wear item — replace the friction disc ($15-$30). (2) DRIVE BELT BROKEN OR LOOSE — the belt from the engine to the friction disc assembly may be broken or stretched. Replace. (3) SPEED SELECTOR CABLE — the cable that moves the friction disc to different positions (speed settings) may be disconnected, broken, or out of adjustment. Check the cable and adjust. (4) DRIVE CLUTCH CABLE — the cable connecting the drive lever to the engagement mechanism may be broken or stretched. The lever squeezes but nothing engages. Adjust or replace the cable. (5) FROZEN AXLE — in extreme cold, moisture can freeze the axle or differential, preventing wheel rotation. Bring the machine to a warmer area to thaw, then lubricate. (6) TRAC MODELS — on 3X TRAC models, the track drive system can also have tensioning issues. If tracks are too loose, they slip. Adjust track tension per the owner manual.
