MECH-CHUTE-STUCK
Cub Cadet · Cub Cadet 2X 26 IntelliPOWER 243cc Two-Stage Snow Blower
The chute control crank turns but the discharge chute does not rotate, or the chute deflector (the flap that adjusts throw angle) is stuck. Causes: (1) ICE BUILDUP — the most common cause. Water from melted snow refreezes around the chute base, gear ring, and worm gear, locking the chute in place. Clear ice from the chute base area. Apply silicone lubricant or anti-corrosion spray to the chute rotation mechanism before each use. (2) CHUTE CONTROL CABLE/GEARS — the cranked handle on the dash connects to the chute via a worm gear and ring gear. If the worm gear teeth are stripped or the cable is broken, the control handle spins freely but the chute does not move. Inspect the gear mechanism. Replace stripped gears. (3) DEFLECTOR CAP STUCK — the chute deflector (top flap) is controlled by a lever/knob. If the pivot bolt is corroded, the deflector will not move. Clean and lubricate the pivot with penetrating oil. (4) TRIGGER STEERING MODELS — on models with trigger steering, the steering control cables can become stiff in cold weather. Work the controls back and forth to free them, and lubricate with cable lubricant before the season. (5) Store the snow blower with the chute pointed to the side (not forward) to prevent ice formation in the chute base.
