MECH-LOW-PRESSURE
Craftsman · Craftsman CMXGWAS021021 3000 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer
The pressure washer runs but produces little or no pressure at the spray gun. This is the most common pressure washer complaint. Causes (in order of likelihood): (1) Wrong nozzle installed — using a wide-angle nozzle (40° white) produces much less concentrated pressure than a narrow nozzle (0° red or 15° yellow). Ensure the correct nozzle is installed for the job. (2) Nozzle clogged — debris in the water can clog the nozzle orifice. Remove the nozzle and clean with the included nozzle cleaning pin or a thin wire. (3) Water supply insufficient — the water source must provide adequate flow (typically 2+ GPM). A kinked hose, partially closed valve, or insufficient water pressure from the source reduces output. Ensure the garden hose is fully open and not kinked. (4) Air in the pump — before starting the engine/motor, squeeze the trigger with water connected but the engine off. Let water flow through the pump and gun for 30 seconds to purge air. (5) Worn pump seals/packings — the high-pressure seals in the pump wear over time, especially if the machine is stored with water in the pump that freezes. Internal seal kits cost $15-$40. (6) Unloader valve stuck or improperly adjusted — the unloader valve diverts water back to the inlet when the trigger is released. If stuck or misadjusted, it diverts water continuously, causing low pressure.
