BLINK-8
Carrier · Carrier 59TP6A080E17 80,000 BTU 96% AFUE Two-Stage Gas Furnace with Variable-Speed Blower
The furnace control board LED flashes 8 times, pauses, then repeats. The control board detected either an open ignitor circuit (the hot surface ignitor is not drawing expected electrical current) or the flame signal during operation is too low. This dual-purpose code is one of the most commonly encountered on Carrier furnaces. For ignitor issues: the hot surface ignitor may be cracked (visible hairline fracture — especially on older silicon carbide ignitors that are very fragile). Check continuity with a multimeter — a good ignitor reads 40-200 ohms depending on type. Replacement ignitors cost $15-$80. For low flame signal issues: the flame sensor rod is dirty with carbon buildup — this is the #1 furnace service call nationwide. Remove the flame sensor (single 1/4" hex screw), clean the metal rod with fine emery cloth or steel wool until shiny, and reinstall. A clean flame sensor should produce 2-6 microamps of DC current in the flame.
