A free platform that helps homeowners figure out what's wrong with their stuff and fix it themselves.
CLERMONT, FL — January 1, 2026 — HomeMD is officially live. It's a free site that helps you look up error codes on your appliances, HVAC, generators, pool gear, and pretty much anything else in your home that has a display. We spent the last two years in beta, making sure the data was solid and the fixes actually worked, before opening it up to everyone.
Right now the site has over 10,000 error codes across 67 brands and close to 20,000 DIY fixes, all ranked by real people who've tried them.
Why I Built This
"I was dealing with a Samsung dishwasher that kept flashing an error code, and I had no idea what it meant," said John Spinella, Founder of HomeMD. "I called a repair tech who charged me $200 just to tell me it was a clogged filter and it turned out to be a five-minute fix. I knew there had to be a better way. So I built HomeMD to give every homeowner instant access to the same answers, ranked by what actually worked for real people."
How It Works
You type in the error code from your appliance (or just describe what's going on, like "won't drain" or "making a weird noise") and HomeMD pulls up fixes that other homeowners have tried. The ones that worked the most get shown first. Each fix tells you how hard it is, what it'll cost, and what parts you might need.
Community-Driven Quality
HomeMD's ranking system ensures repair quality improves over time. Every fix is voted on by homeowners who have tried it. Fixes with high success rates appear first, while ineffective solutions drop lower. Users can also submit their own fixes, upload photos and videos, and leave comments sharing tips specific to their model.
"We're building something like Waze, but for home repair," Spinella added. "The more people contribute, the better the platform gets for everyone. A fix that works on a Samsung DW80R5060US dishwasher might not work on a different model — our community data captures those nuances."
What It Covers
Most sites out there only cover one type of appliance. HomeMD covers basically everything in your house:
- Kitchen & Laundry — Dishwashers, washers, dryers, fridges, ovens, microwaves
- HVAC — AC units, furnaces, heat pumps, thermostats, mini-splits
- Water Heaters — Tank and tankless
- Generators — Portable, standby, and inverter
- Yard Stuff — Riding mowers, push mowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, snow blowers, pressure washers
- Pool & Spa — Pumps, heaters, salt systems, filters, cleaners
- Electronics — TVs, soundbars, receivers, printers, projectors
568 specific models from 67 brands so far, and we're adding more every week.
When You Don't Have an Error Code
Sometimes your stuff just stops working and there's no code on the screen. For that, we built Homey, an AI assistant you can just talk to. Tell it "my fridge is making a buzzing noise" or "AC is blowing warm air" and it'll walk you through what to check. Pro members can also snap a photo of an error code and get an instant lookup.
It's Free
Looking up error codes, reading fixes, voting, commenting — all free. You don't even need an account to search.
There's a Pro plan for $4.99/month (with a 7-day free trial) if you want extras like:
- Unlimited AI chats with Homey
- No ads
- Photo-based error code scanning
- Step-by-step troubleshooting guides
- Maintenance reminders for your appliances
- Parts recommendations
- Wiring diagrams
There's also a Pro Tech tier for professional repair technicians who want to manage their customers, service history, and equipment all in one place.
