Whirlpool · Whirlpool WED5000DW 7.4 cu. ft. Electric Dryer
The exhaust temperature thermistor (sensor) has an open circuit — the wire is broken or the sensor element has failed. The dryer uses this sensor to measure the air temperature leaving the drum. Without it, the dryer cannot regulate heat and will shut down as a safety measure. The exhaust thermistor is typically located in the exhaust duct at the rear of the dryer. Test with a multimeter — it should read approximately 10,000 ohms at room temperature. An infinite reading means open circuit. Replace the thermistor.
