MECH-BACKUP-VALVE
Polaris · Polaris 3900 Sport Pressure-Side Pool Cleaner
The backup valve (the device installed in the feeder hose that periodically reverses the cleaner) is stuck and does not cycle. The backup valve should activate every 2-4 minutes, causing the cleaner to briefly stop and change direction. If it is stuck: (1) Remove the backup valve from the hose and inspect the internal mechanism — the valve uses water pressure to cycle a plastic shuttle; debris can jam it. (2) Soak the valve in warm water and flush it to clear debris. (3) Check that the valve is installed with the correct orientation — the arrow on the valve body must point toward the cleaner (away from the wall). (4) If the internal shuttle is cracked or the spring is broken, replace the backup valve. They are inexpensive and considered a consumable part.
