MECH-SAFETY-INTERLOCK
Cub Cadet · Cub Cadet XT1 LT42 IntelliPOWER 547cc 42" Riding Lawn Tractor
The engine will not start, shuts off when the operator stands, or blades stop unexpectedly. These are intentional safety features, but intermittent switch failures cause unwanted shutdowns. Cub Cadet riding mowers have: (1) SEAT SWITCH — prevents starting and kills the engine if the operator leaves the seat. If faulty, bouncing over rough terrain triggers shutdown. Test by pressing down on the seat while trying to start. Replace faulty switches ($10-$20). (2) PTO SWITCH — engine will not start if blades are engaged. Move PTO to OFF before starting. (3) PARKING BRAKE — must be fully engaged to start. (4) NEUTRAL/PARK — speed control must be in neutral. (5) REVERSE CAUTION — on many Cub Cadet models, the blades shut off when reversing unless the operator activates the Reverse Caution Override System (typically by turning the key to a specific position). (6) If any switch is intermittently faulty, the engine shuts off unpredictably. Replace individual switches ($10-$20 each).
