MECH-ELECTRICAL
Craftsman · Craftsman R105 30" 10.5 HP Gear-Drive Rear Engine Riding Mower
All electrical functions are dead — the engine will not crank, headlights do not work, and the key switch produces no response. Craftsman riding mowers typically have a single 20-amp fuse that protects the entire electrical system. Causes: (1) Blown 20A fuse — locate the fuse in the wiring harness (usually near the battery or under the seat/dash area). Check visually or with a multimeter for continuity. Replace with a 20A fuse only — never use a higher-rated fuse. If the new fuse blows immediately, there is a short circuit that must be found and repaired before replacing the fuse again. (2) Battery completely dead — voltage below 10.5V may cause no response from any electrical components. Charge the battery fully and test. (3) Loose or corroded ground wire — the engine ground strap connects the battery negative to the engine block. If this connection is corroded or loose, the entire electrical system fails. Clean and tighten the ground connection. (4) Ignition switch failure — the key switch contacts wear out over time. If turning the key produces no click from the starter solenoid and the fuse/battery are good, the switch may be faulty. (5) Wiring damage — rodents chewing wires, corrosion from moisture, or a wire rubbed through from vibration can cause open or short circuits. Inspect the wiring harness for damage.
