Igniter Glows No Flame
Amana · NGD4655EW 6.5 cu ft Gas Dryer 18,000 BTU Wrinkle Prevent
The gas igniter (glow bar) glows orange but the gas burner does not ignite. This is the most common gas dryer repair. The igniter draws current through the gas valve coils — when the igniter reaches operating temperature (draws enough current), the coils open the gas valve. If the igniter has weakened, it may glow but not draw enough amperage to open the valve coils. The igniter may need replacement even though it glows. Also test the gas valve coils (radiant flame sensor) — these coils can develop intermittent open circuits when hot. Replace all coils as a set. Ensure the gas supply shutoff valve behind the dryer is fully open.
